About nek
OUR HISTORY
Northeast Kansas Homeschool Activities (NEK) was formed in July 2020 for the purpose of providing
athletic and other extracurricular activities for homeschooled students in northeast Kansas. While other
homeschool organizations existed in the area, it was clear that the growing homeschool community had
a need for another resource for families.
NEK was blessed to have a number of excellent, experienced coaches as founding participants. In its first
year, NEK was able to provide junior high and high school teams in basketball, cross country, soccer and
track and field, volleyball and tennis. NEK became a KSHSAA (Kansas State High School Activities Association) approved
school starting in the 2020-21 school year. This allows NEK to participate with KSHSAA-member schools.
Besides athletics, NEK provides other activities for homeschool families.
Beginning in the 2022-23 school year, NEK added choirs for grades K-12. NEK has also hosted other events including a fall family dance, spring prom, and graduation ceremonies. NEK continues to be open to adding other activities in order to
enhance homeschooling for families in Northeast Kansas.
